Notes: With the latest release on Thule Records the audience is reacquainted with Waage, an Icelandic producer who is already became a force to reckon with within the dub techno community. Along him is a new and fresh tallend name: Quantal – a name to be remember in the near future.
The tracks, comfortably named WM1 to WM4, are repetitive and groovy – a mantra for the braindancers and useful tool for the late-night DJs. WM1 challenges the listeners with its high pitch perc, yet manages to maintain an interesting groove throughout. WM2 is an wide and airy dub techno extravaganza. It slowly drags the listener in like a fisherman with a 10 pound trout. Reels you in slowly and efficiently – and before you know it, you’re being held tightly in the bosom of Waage and Quantal.
The flipside begins with WM3 – steady dub techno beat with atmospheric pads. The chords slowly crawl in, and layers gradually appear from the deep. Finally WM4 brings it home with a heavy-hitting kick, enigmatic chord structures and synchronized breath of an unfamiliar humanoid. Overall, the release is dark and meditative. It works for both the dancefloor and the mind.
