ama Music returns with its sixth release this February, a various artist package entitled ‘The Tomodachi’ and featuring material from Vlad Arapasu, Frazer Campbell, OddMann and Yama Music themselves. Over the past few years and its five releases so far, the Yama Music imprint has cemented itself as a driving force in the stripped-back, micro house world. Part of the Yoyaku YYDistribution family the label initially made its mark with a run of releases from the label owners, under the same name as the imprint. Now expanding its roster the last VA welcomed Birdsmakingmachine, Locïc, Dan Formless and TIJN. Here the expansion continues and Vlad Arapasu’s ‘Osc2’ leads the way, fusing choppy bass stabs and intricate percussion with an amalgamation of oscillating, dubbed out synth tones as the name would suggest. Yama Music’s ‘Ends Meat’ follows next, shifting focus to a shuffled drum groove, hypnotic textures and a bumpy bass line. London’s Frazer Campbell kicks off the b-side with ‘How Hard Can It Be’, laid out over six- minutes with a square wave bass sequence, heavy subs and gritty stabs at its core before OddMann’s ‘Spazziale’ completes the package on a brooding dub tip, layering expansive chord echoes, elongated pads and a winding bass line with dusty, heavily swung percussion.
Tracklist:
A1. Vlad Arapasu - Osc2
A2. Yama Music - Ends Meat
